Some about the Model Air Club of Thun - Switzerland:
Switzerland is a very small alpine country in the heart of Europe. Thun is a Town of about 40 000 Inhabitants and is situated on the low end of the Lake of Thun. We are directly at the rim of the alps and therfore Thun is also named the Door to the Alps. We - the Model Air Club of Thun are a club of about one hundred members and our Flying Field is on an Army Training Center giving us only restricted acess during weekdays.

IPC Spring 2012 Report:

Weather conditions:

Heavy overcast sky with a very low ceiling which was affixed to the snow covered mountains.
Light to mediocre northern winds with temperatures around 12°C .

Hello to everybody

We started first with the group photo - as you can see the weather conditions where not at all promising for Thermal Soaring but 13 willing Pilots tried to get the best out of the conditions.
The models flown where of a great variety - mostly RES Gasbags like the AVA, Aquila and some own Design - also some modern F 3 J glass slippers like the Explorer.
As there was absolutely no direct sun exposure Lift conditions where weak and one had to work for the six minutes – good Hi Starts always do help for not to bad flight times.
As always the Landings where not regularly good - it was for a lot of pilots the first time in the year to fly a contest after the long winter - the training for good landings was not really sufficient.
Most flew of the club winch and some (the Gasbags!) prefered hand tow - the steady and regular headwind permitted very good tow heights.
Finally the Lift conditions where not so bad as expected and the attained flight times where surprisingly good – but the landing scores could had have been better.
All in all we had a good time together and we hope that more than 3 Clubs had participated and will sending in IPC results for this Spring round.
Happy flying and always some lift under the wings!
